Abstract

This article examines selected elements of discourse strategies of nominalization and predication in Gazeta Wyborcza and Rzeczpospolita. The corpus of 645 texts excerpted for the purpose of the study consists of publications from 2015–2022 on topics related to the UN international climate summits. The research framework is based on corpus linguistics methods (Sketch Engine) and critical discourse analysis in its discourse-
historical approach. The findings indicate significant differences in the representation of climate issues in the two newspapers. Although both dailies employed pejorative lexical elements (e.g. fight, struggle, threat), the qualitative concordance analysis revealed that Gazeta Wyborcza used them practically exclusively to emphasise that climate change was a global problem requiring immediate action, while Rzeczpospolita used them also to highlight possible financial losses.
