Abstract

The goal of this study is to scrutinise the mechanism referred to as the resting position of the stomatognathic system. The resting position is shaped and stabilized by the tongue. The study references selected currently available literature on the subject to analyse
results of the resting position examination with the use of objective instrumental
technology. Further in the article, the methods and results of a case study conducted
by the authors are reported. Objective instrumental techniques used for the purpose
of the case study include electromagnetic articulography (EMA) and cone-beam computed
tomography (CBCT). The undertaken study allowed the authors to provide a description
of the normative tongue resting position and its schematic reconstructions.
