Abstract

The purpose of this publication is to review the monograph titled Świadek koronny w polskim procesie karnym. Ocena instytucji z perspektywy sędziego i adwokata [Crown Witness in Polish Criminal Proceedings: An Evaluation of the Institution from the Perspective of a Judge and an Attorney] by Jacek Potulski and Marek Skwarcow. The monograph was developed as a result of reflections on the 25th anniversary of the title institution’s functioning in the Polish legal system. A unique feature of the reviewed publication is its dualistic approach to the subject matter – juxtaposing the viewpoint of a judge, responsible for the objective evaluation of evidence and rendering a just verdict, with the perspective of a defence attorney, who holds a specific procedural interest. The authors focus primarily on the practical aspects of utilising this tool in criminal proceedings. The conclusions of the review state that the monograph constitutes a valuable compendium for practitioners, systematising judicial standards and shedding new light on the core procedural and ethical problems faced by the modern justice system.
