Abstract

The penultimate, i.e. 29th part of the series – Churches and parishes of the Ełk diocese – will present church centres in Wilkasy (St. Rafał Kalinowski), Wiśniów Ełcki (Our Lady of Candlemas), Wiżajny (St. Teresa), Woźnice (St. Maksymilian Maria Kolbe) and Wydminy (Christ the Saviour). They all have a rich history reaching back several centuries. The history of the parish (circumstances of its foundation, its organisation and development, etc.) has been made the backbone of each description. The history of the churches is closely connected with the parish – some of them are hundreds of years old and are important architectural monuments, others were built after the war, and still others (chapels) are located in temporary or adapted buildings. Each parish religious building deserves a detailed description using architectural terminology used in church planning. In addition, individual studies contain information about local cemeteries and various religious and non-religious monuments, descriptions of rectories (parish social facilities), lists of towns or streets belonging to the parish, lists of previous parish priests, information about vicars and other clergy operating in parishes. In addition, we learn about the religious orders located there (if they exist) and people appointed, originating from the communities discussed. The bibliographic base of the descriptions has become mainly printed sources, master's and doctoral theses (most often devoted to parishes and places of worship) and studies (subject literature) - a list of bibliographies can be found under each entry.
