The article addresses the important issue of character formation as the foundation of humanity and a dignified life in the context of the letter of St. Józef Bilczewski entitled "Character". The views of Archbishop Józef Bilczewski contained in this work concern, on the one hand, the "purely human" character (this "purely human" character is a conglomeration of various psychophysical features inherited in genes and internalized values and developed attitudes - achieved through one's own effort, but also acquired in the course of upbringing in the family, at school, in the environment.), and on the other, the formation of Christian character (this is goodness and moral beauty in fuller form). In summarizing his position, Archbishop J. Bilczewski propagates in his letter the idea of universal holiness popularized by Christianity, emphasizing that God does not address only a small number of chosen ones, but all people and each one of us. Only on such character and upbringing can a sovereign, independent, safe community be built.
