Abstract

The purpose of the article is to expose the child as a separate category in the context of the idea of humanistic education. This is because the issue is insufficiently developed in the literature on the subject. Meanwhile, historical studies show that the beginning of systematic scientific reflection on the child and childhood did not appear until the mid-nineteenth century. In the past, the child's world complemented the adult world. The child was deprived of his own rights, did not have the freedom to decide on important areas of life (education, profession), for a long time remained at the very bottom of the social hierarchy.

Hence because of the rapid liberalization of the child's position and objective treatment by adults, up to the limits of appropriation of childhood, it is desirable to refer to the category of childhood seen from the perspective of the idea of humanistic education. Humanistic education, in fact, cares for the defense of man "against such an ideological organization of life that could lead to the killing and trampling of the human person".
