Abstract

This article describes the legal status of farmers as sanatorium patients. The legal levels of access to therapeutic rehabilitation in the farmers' social insurance system are outlined. The scope of rights and obligations of preventive healthcare institutions as entities providing therapeutic rehabilitation services are defined according to the World Health Organization and International Labour Organisation terminology, and a catalogue of basic rights of patients in sanatoriums is established. Unique in Europe, the regulations enabling farmers and their family members to obtain the status of sanatorium patients are presented. These regulations are compared with the current case laws of national and international courts, tribunals and committee bodies. The article also describes how the current statutory solutions setting the standards of care for sanatorium patients, as patients in preventive health care institutions, correspond to the recommendations of the International Federation of Thermalism and Climatism, and to what extent Polish regulations exceed them.
