Abstract

The article examines the military activities of Colonel Onufry Gustaw Duchyński, Military Chief of Grodno Voivodeship, between April and August 1863, in the political and military context of the January Uprising. The commander's reports to the National Government constitute the main source of information for this study. These documents were analyzed in the context of existing scholarship, in particular the detailed memoirs of Ignacy Aramowicz, to paint a more comprehensive picture of events in Grodno region. The article addresses issues related to the organization of national administration, including the division of responsibilities, troop size, military equipment, and the competences of individual officers. The surviving source materials enabled the reconstruction of the combat routes and encampment sites of insurgent units in Grodno Voivodeship. The study also presents a portrait of Duchyński, assesses his effectiveness as a commander, analyzes his collaboration with Konstanty Kalinowski and Walery Wróblewski, and examines the opinions of his contemporaries. The research draws on additional archive materials, published sources, secondary literature, and the press
