During the political transformation of 1956 in Poland, the communist Security Service responsible for the reign of terror and oppression of the nation had to face a serious crisis. The society demanded that the functionaries of the Communist appa-ratus pay for the crimes they committed in Poland. However, the Communist Party which governed the Polish People’s Republic strongly opposed this idea because the Secret Police was one of the central pillars of the communist regime.
