Abstract

The paper discusses Henri Bergson’s conception of artistic creativity as an effect of “creative evolution”. The emergence of a work of art is accompanied by two main processes, which consolidate the relationship between the spiritual and material world: sympathy and assimilation. The act of creating can be described by means of different techniques, e.g. concentrating, mentalization, going beyond the plan, selecting, reversing the physical course in the opposite direction, framing the work. On a metaphysical level Bergson de- scribes creativity not as a relationship of the artist and man, but as a relationship between the soul of the artist and the world of nature.
