Actuality of Immanuel Kant’s Considerations on Radical Evil in Chantal Delsol’s Philosophical Thoughts

Krystyna Demkowicz-Dobrzańska

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is an attempt to show

an influence of Kantian understanding of evil on

Chantal Delsol’s considerations about western

civilization. The French philosopher explores

social and political ideas in order to explain

causes of multiples genocides and collapse of

ideologies of the 20th century. She looks for solutions how to prevent tyranny and totalitarianism. Delsol analyzes the situation of a dignified

individual in relation with others and with the

socio-political system. The individual, whose

dygnity is respected, is a cornerstone of a stable social order. There is a necessity to find the

roots of mistakes to build the successful society.

The issue of evil remains an underlying problem.
