Abstract

In this article, a comprehended review of experiences of Indian economic reforms, introduced in 1991 is presented. As an introductory point of considerations serves a failure of decades of former economic strategy – to find` the third way” of development between the market economy and socialism. A turn to market-oriented reforms became inevitable. Then, three basic issues are debated: the programme to renovate public sector enterprises, trade liberalization and opening to the foreign capital (tariff reduction, removal of import licensing, rupee convertibility and foreign investments) and impact of introduced reforms upon agriculture.
