The events o f 11 September 2001 made “security” become one of the key categories in the discussion on the form o f international relations. This article aims to show the extent to which the political dimension o f security fits in the normative and ideological debate. Through placing security beyond the normative discourse, not only do we lose a possibility to approach it comprehensively, but we also risk the emergence o f a curious inversion where what was our original objective turns into its opposite.
