Abstract

The aim of the article is the modern reference to Wittgenstein’s thesis that “the borders of my language are the borders of my world”. Consumptionism mixed with liberalism and mass culture leads to mercantilism and objectification of world and man. That implies pragmatic mentality and the appropriate language expression, which main features are: reduction of man to economic and utility functions. This implicates scantiness and coarseness of vocabulary and is also associated with the general tendency to trivialization, e.g. vulgarization of speech and written forms, especially gross in comparison with “life aestheticism”. It leads to an assumption that “aestheticism” is only superficial and inconsistent. On the other hand, ignoring the ethic aspects of spoken and written word can be observed. This phenomenon may be dangerous due to causative power of human words. Degradation and abjection of language not only reflects but also deepens degradation of humanity inside the human being.
