Abstract

Today’s social reality offers more reasons for astonishment and reflection than ever before. This is mainly due to a never previously observed rate of social change along with various economic, political and ecological consequences. Key questions stemming from the dynamics of social transformation pertain to globalization, and - in its context – national identity, democracy, freedom, environmental and political global threats, culture, values - issues, which de facto demarcate the sphere of the most significant philosophical problems in upcoming times. These problems are most significant as they affect us all directly, are most perceptible and most important for the “coherent perception of being a part of the world”. The article’s objective is to draw attention to the increasing significance of social issues and to indicate philosophical matters which appear within their context. It seems that social change inspires reflection pertaining not only to strictly social issues, but also to general issues. As the significance of social issues increases, so does the rank of underlying matters.
