Abstract

The purpose of the analysis is to discuss the culture-based function of the radio in monographic terms based on the example of the Polish Radio Program II. An important element of the analysis is historical perspective that allows us to identify the most important features of Program II at various stages of its development and to describe current activities to fulfill the cultural mission of the radio. The cultural function is manifested in three functional dimensions: 1) the dissemination of culture, 2) cultural education, 3) artistic creativity. Since the creation of the Program II, the radio station has been devoted to the broadcast of cultural character. For radio work, outstanding journalists and artists create radio programs of high intellectual and aesthetic quality. An important part of the activity of Program II is conducting a radio orchestra and the recordings of performers made in radio studio and original radio work – radio broadcasts, documentaries, reports or the Radio Theater, which are testimony to the fulfillment of cultural functions.
