Abstract

The article compares two Slavic languages – Serbian and Ukrainian – in terms of the
distribution of formants expressing the intensity category. The analysis, in which the
semantic word-formation methodology was applied, concerns derivatives with formants
strengthening the meaning of word-formation roots. Findings showed that between
the two languages there are quite clear differences in connectivity of formants with
word-formation roots of derivative lexemes, while similarities concern primarily the
distribution of formants of foreign origin.
