Competences and Tasks of Each Body

Scientific board:

  1. Sets down and maintains the profile of the journal.
  2. Ensures that the journal meets scientific standards and is original on both the national and the international scale.
  3. Maintains a positive image of the journal and ensures that it is recognisable in Poland and abroad.

Editor-in-chief:

  1. Cooperates with members of the Scientific Board.
  2. Supervises the editorial team.
  3. Maintains the ethical and substantial standards of the journal and promotes its development.
  4. Supervises the recruitment of reviewers and other matters related to the journal.
  5. Decides on the order in which papers are to be published and has the final say on whether to publish or reject each study.
  6. Supervises editorial tasks performed using the publishing platform and updates the platform’s content and functionality in cooperation with Libcom and the Publishing House of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w Olsztynie).

Editorial board:

  1. Cooperates with the editor-in-chief and subject editors. Its duties include: a) Initial qualification of papers. A paper must first meet the formal requirements and have satisfactory substantive and linguistic quality before the publication process can continue; b) Selection of a subject editor for each paper; c) Selection of an issue editor; d) Making the decision to continue with the publication of a paper or reject it at any stage of the publication process; e) Directing the development and day-to-day operation of the journal.
  2. Takes action in the event of a suspected breach of scientific ethics on the part of authors or reviewers.

Subject editor:

  1. Assesses the substantive and linguistic value of papers, then shares his or her opinion with the editorial board and recommends each paper for further processing or rejection.
  2. Suggests reviewers depending on the subject matter of a paper and the authors’ methodology, as long as the paper meets formal requirements and has the appropriate substantive and linguistic quality needed for the publication process to continue.
  3. Corresponds with the authors and reviewers of a paper until either the final version of the manuscript is submitted (if the paper has been accepted for publication) or the paper is rejected (if the paper has received a negative review or does not meet editorial or ethical standards).
  4. Checks whether the authors of papers took into account the reviewers’ remarks and suggestions. Assesses the validity of responses to reviews, if applicable.
  5. Cooperates with the issue editor in matters related to substantive and linguistic content.

Issue editor:

  1. Analyses papers received from the editor-in-chief and opinions of subject editors. Makes editorial corrections to papers if necessary.
  2. Cooperates with authors, the editorial board and editor-in-chief in matters related to substantive and linguistic content.
  3. Once the final version of a manuscript is complete, submits the full content of an issue to the publishing board. Maintains correspondence with the publishing editor and sends papers to their authors for corrections after the initial typesetting.
  4. Once a paper meets all substantive and formal requirements and all necessary corrections have been introduced, submits the complete set of papers to the publishing editor.

Secretary of the editorial board:

  1. Maintains a database of papers submitted for publication, including the necessary metadata. Archives materials, creates electronic backups and maintains electronic documentation and, if necessary, printouts.
  2. Informs authors about the decisions of the editorial board regarding the paper they submitted, i.e. whether the board has accepted or rejected the paper.
  3. Sends copies of documents to the authors and the scientific board.
  4. Maintains correspondence regarding the day-to-day operation of the journal.

Linguistic editor:

  1. Ensures linguistic correctness of typeset papers.
  2. Submits journal issues to the Polish and international scientific databases cooperating with Prace Językoznawcze.
  3. Provides linguistic consultations to issue and subject editors.

Statistical editor:

  1. Checks the correctness of the statistical methods used by authors.
  2. Follows information related to the journal provided in tools for calculating impact and quotations and shares it with the editor-in-chief and the editorial board.

Publishing board:

  1. Typesets and edits the journal.
  2. Sends papers to the issue editor for correction by the editors and the authors.
  3. Introduces the suggested changes and necessary corrections.
  4. Submits journal issues for print after the issue editor and/or the editor-in-chief accepts them.

UWM Publishing House:

  1. Is responsible for the organisational and technical side of the publishing process.
  2. Shares the current electronic versions of the journal on its website.
  3. Distributes the mandatory copy.
  4. Submits the printed version of the journal to scientific databases for indexing, if required by a given database.
