Free legal advice in Ukraine: an outline of the problem
Abstract
In the Ukrainian legal system, the possibility of using free legal assistance mainly by citizens of this country has been introduced in the form of a law. The solution adopted in Ukraine meets the standards of a democratic state of law and the need for legal protection of people in particularly difficult life situations. However, the provisions of Ukrainian law haven’t extended the scope of this assistance and haven’t used the solutions of other countries (e.g. Poland) to extend this assistance to support, e.g. psychological or social. This doesn’t change the fact that the provisions of the Act on free legal assistance should be treated with appreciation, especially in the context of the annexation of Crimea and the Russian-Ukrainian War. The purpose of these considerations is to outline the scope of legal assistance and entities and recipients of legal assistance provided free of charge.
