Abstract

Pantheistic ideas, which are to be found in Egyptian thought and an early stage of Greek philosophy, are presented and characterized in the paper.

The Greek civilization adopted numerous elements of the Egyptian tradition: pantheistic concepts appear in both those cultures.

Perceiving the Universe as one organism is characteristic of pantheistic ideas present in Egyptian priests used to talk about the world – the body of their god Ptah, while Greek philosophers – about arche of reality, most often connected with the functioning of an organism. In this way they tried to describe all kinds of phenomena related to existence.
