In the Circle of Biographies of Totalitarianism

Eugeniusz Hull

Abstract

The biographies of Bolesław Bierut, Jacek Różański and Jerzy Borejsza - the creators of Polish stalinizm - were subjected to analysis. The most important research problems of the totalitarian epoch were presented and its basic concepts were set against contemporary historiography.

The most crucial questions concentrate around the role played by biographics, evaluation of its source values and its function of a significant supplement to a historical synthesis. An analysis of the biographies connected with the totalitarian period leads also towards a sphere of ethical problems, which constitutes an indispensable element of wider cognition of historical philosophy and its nature.
