In 1914, Witold Balukiewicz and Julian Łosiewski received priestly ordinations in the Sejny cathedral and began their pastoral ministry in their parishes. After outbreak of the World War I the young priests’ plans shattered. Faced with hunger and various infectious diseases, they suffered the same fate as their parishioners. They were forced to leave their houses and go deep into the Russia. The second part of article describes the history of two priests in their pastoral duties among the exiles. The article concludes with the history of Balukiewicz’s and Łosiewski’s service in the army. Father Balukiewicz returned home to Poland in July 1918 and Father Łosiewski ended up in Soviet captivity and returned in 1921.
