Nature or Culture – the Controversy Over the Essence of Ecology

Stefan Opara

Abstract

Ecological projects on natural habitat protection are much too frequently perceived as a “come back” to nature. While, in fact, nature is not a typical habitat for humans. Homo Sapiens, which has derived from the animal and natural world, can exist and develop excusively within the cultural environment, which is a sphere of processed matter. Shallow naturism is not the right way to effective environment protection. The role of ecology is to stress the importance of improving the condition of the artificial environment, meaning culture.
