Polish spring offensive during the November uprising – The Liw struggle

Tomasz Strzeżek

Abstract

The paper constitutes an atternpt to present the views of Erich Fromm on religion – its genesis, structure, types, and functions it ful-filia in human life.

The analysis of Fromm's writings allows to state that religion is one of the most significant social phenomena. The need for practising religion has its source in the dichotomy of human existence (animal instinct versus rationality), while the form it adopts, as well as the way in which the concept of God is understood, are historically conditioned. They abc, depend on the knowledge development and ernotional maturity of an individual. Fromm mentions two types of religion: humanistic and authoritarian. However, he is in favour only of the former ones, emphasizing the role they play in the process of self-realization of a human being.
