The paper presents some aspects of the activity of South African institutions and state organizations, private and social, in the field of ecology. This kind of activity has long and far-reaching traditions in South Africa, and for the last two decades has been developing intensely. The goals are achieved by means of legal regulations, financial sanctions, research programmes and staff training, mass education of society, supporting of concrete undertakings. The ecological acitivity in South Africa often has an international dimension and is conducted at the level bilateral, regional and global contacts.
