Neuroesthetics – Critical Analysis of Selected Empirical Studies

Abstract

The purpose of this article is a critical analysis of selected empirical studies on neuroestetics. Neuroesthetics is a new interdisciplinary scientific field aiming do describe the functioning of the brain in response to a work of art. This paper presents and analyzes results of research on cerebral correlates of aesthetic preference and perception of beauty. Despite the doubts of the interpretative nature these results confirm the hypothesis of the specificity aesthetic response in relation to other types of human cognitive responses.
