Abstract

The article examines public attitudes in Warmia and Mazury toward the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact troops based on an analysis of Security Service documents. Operation Podhale was initiated by the Security Service in the first days of the military intervention. The operation was launched to closely monitor public sentiment throughout the country. Local departments forwarded special reports on local attitudes towards the Prague Spring, the armed intervention in Czechoslovakia, protests, and the state of the economy to the Ministry of the Interior. As a result of the implementation of operation Podhale, very interesting documents were developed, providing valuable insights into public opinion in Warmia and Mazury regarding the events of 1968 in Czechoslovakia and the measures undertaken by the Security Service in the Polish People’s Republic.
