Environment Conservation in the Activities of Polish Tatra Society 1906-1918

Abstract

In the last decades of 20th century enlightened part of Polish society accepted positivism purified of metaphysics elements as a viewpoint towards developing industrial and culturale activities. Polish Tatra Society (1873) and Polish Sightseeing Society (1906) were founded to propag ate the conservation of Polish culture and nature on the territory of former Republic of Poland. The ideas and thoughts included in charers of both societies applied to tourism and sightseeing. The main goal of both soccties was to protect Polish culture and environment throughout discovering and examining the nature monuments and natural resources and by analizing the results of their research. This paper is an analysis of ideas and thoughts concerning this aspect of both societies’ activities, whose members shaped the „space” for free thought.
