The article discusses issues related to the concept of reason. In particular, the question of what factors must be taken into account by a defender of the importance of the idea of reason, and how he can justify his defense. Moreover, what conclusions can be drawn regarding that justification and what a value it has. Therefore, let us look at the defenses of reason formulated on the basis of the modern German philosophy with a special emphasis on Herbert Schnaedelbach’s concept of the “open reason”, and then we will ask about a justification of the efforts to establish such a concept which is intended to be a defense of reason. Finally, we will draw basic criticism.
