Elements of the Cartesian Philosophy Versus Ecological Hazards

Abstract

Some elements of the Cartesian philoso­phy are presented in the paper in the context of the views expressed by contemporary thinkers dealing with ecology. The dualism of reality and rationalism are these aspects of the Cartesian thought which are most criticized,due to the fact that they sem to sanction the exploitation of natural environment.

However, according to the author of the paper, Cartesius is not responsible for our logical crisis. The intellectual system proposed by the philosopher includes arguments againsł the theses of Sceptics and scholastic philosophy. Moreover, some environmental changes caused by man long before the Cartesian period.
