Abstract

The article presents the results of research focused on the question of continuity between

video games and their mods. Within the adopted conceptual framework – the ontologically

oriented theory of works of art developed by

Roman Ingarden – it asks when the changes

introduced by a mod cause it to become autonomous and itself qualify as a video game.

This issue is examined through references to

the intentional ontological character of video

games and the criteria of objectual continuity.

Keywords:

video games, mods, ontology, phenomenology
